Economics is increasingly being seen as a scientific domain
characterized by disequilibrium, learning, interaction, and evolution
rather than equilibrium, perfect rationality, and steady states. To
come to terms with this shift of perspective, new tools, new outlooks
and even a new philosophy may be necessary. The methods of
selforganization and formal evolutionary theory, which have proven so
fruitful in the natural sciences in recent years, may hold the key to
advancing in this direction.
This volume, consisting of contributions in both German and English,
brings together leading international authorities to address not only
methodological questions but also a range of concrete applications
central to these issues. Topics include analytical models and computer
simulations; selforganization in time and space; economic evolution
and the environment, growth and history; and innovation and
technological change.
